Mechanical metamaterials are a class of composite materials with artificially engineered structures, resulting in superior mechanical properties not found in conventional materials. Among these materials, energy-absorbing mechanical metamaterials can absorb mechanical energy more efficiently, thus requiring the materials themselves to have both high strength and high elongation capabilities. This is a difficult task because they generally rarely coexist. Nanolattices are a new class of mechanical metamaterials with characteristic sizes on the nanoscale. These porous materials have unique mechanical properties due to size effects, geometric configurations, and material selection.
